Last year I purchased a trial to generate headshots of me. I'm not sure why, but it seemed like a good idea, The results were… let’s call them “creatively unsettling.” Some looked like me but others were like staring into a distorted mirror. Loving the weight loss. My wife has not laughed that hard in a while. Out of 200, I got a 15 that actually looked like me. 7% . Still some work to do there I guess. I see similar stuff in people selling A direct message, written for a million people. All these new fancy tools being mis-used to letter bomb you. For the last few months I've been working on automating the demand generation process. If you don't know what that is, it's how you get people to want to buy your stuff. AI has undeniable potential. It’s changing how we approach everything. I 100% use it every day. For content, I use it to find ideas, research and copy edit or test out styles. I use it to build a content matrix. It gives me topics and writing styles to consider. I CAN generate content using my Swipifier tool (see below). I'm still testing it and the end result always needs work. For understanding audience, I use it to generate psychographic profiles or a customer avatar details. It can help define a person's fears, aspirations based on a profile - as a starting point. My landing page copy first draft is generated by ChatGPT. I use it to come up with tag line ideas. I use it in almost every aspect of my work. But for sending a direct message or this newsletter, I write it myself. I looked at my wife's LinkedIn DMs and saw a sea of generated messages. The "senders" didn’t seem to understand her unique challenges. They didn't take the time. This is what some people call "running at scale". Sales is a numbers game. But here's the thing: Sending a bunch of generic emails - or even emails that have "Hello {name}" don't convert. Running at scale is about results, not effort. Anyone can send a million emails that don't provide help. When I find someone I want to help, I send them a note. I take a minute or more to understand who they are. in a minute or two, I can learn about someone and write them a thoughtful note and ask about something personal. I usually take a few days and visit their profile to see what they are up to. Funny enough, they often write me back. And are happy to hop on a call. Tools permeating the sales process make it easy to select a 1000 people and send them a sales message. It's like an robocall. It's as cold as cold gets. Think it doesn't work? Think its not fast? How many people can your business actually service? If you are selling higher ticket items you don't need that many. If you are selling lower ticket, this might not be the best use of your resources. I've written and dug up AI code to automate this end to end. Like my headshots, automating outreach would get me 7% for sure. I want 50%. You want to scale? Do it manually first. Then figure out how to automate it. Don't lose the personal touch. Remember, people buy from people they trust. Let AI handle the heavy lifting. Make sure you are the one doing the talking. What’s been your experience with AI in your sales process? Do you get a lot of annoying messages too? Thanks for reading . - Matt PS: I'm retooling a bit. My last launch got me a lot of interest but not doing what I thought. So I've switched to helper mode. If you need anything, let me know. I've already helped a bunch of people helping with funnel building and content creation. I'm doing some quick meetings and seeing what I have that can move things forward for you.
