Duke of Arrakis.

I finally watched the second Dune movie. One of the take aways for me was how Paul Atreides (the protagonist) approached solving problems and becoming the leader. Sometimes the answer isn't choosing the best thing - it's choosing all the things and using what works in different situations. No spoilers, but Paul learns something troubling about himself and decides to accept and use it to further his mission (rather than avoid it). When I was a teenager My Martial Arts Instructor gave me a Tony Robbins book ("Unlimited Power"). Tony was new to the scene back then and mostly on Late night TV selling tapes. The book captivated me. I used his ideas on myself - accelerating a career path and starting to deal with some trauma. I continued to leverage his content for years to come. And ultimately became a student of his at Robbins-Madanes Training. There are other valuable ways to overcome fear and anxiety create a life you dream of. Some of these ways are more effective in solving certain problems. Some of them move you forward bypassing the trauma (don't worry it will find you eventually). For instance, Cognitive Behavioural therapy is brilliant for dealing with the inner monologue (that voice telling you to stop wasting your time). Plant Medicine is good for dealing with PTSD. Sometimes - telling someone what to do is the best answer. This is not a common coaching or therapy practice and I think it's frowned upon. Once in a while, the best approach is to mention how you did something. But people want to categorize you. "Are you a coach?" "No. But I coach." "Huh?" For me, Coaching is a tool. It's a task. It's something you do in a given situation to address a specific problem. The name Coach doesn't define me or who I am. In the same way I'm not an advisor, consultant, or mentor. I'm any of these when I need to be. My focus has been to define the outcomes rather than the process. People are always curious about the process. This is where names like "Flywheel Scale Model", "Zealous Buyer Strategy" and "Content Atlas" help. They you a sense of the journey you will go on. Rather than try to categorize myself an an X, I rather say what I do but in my own terms. My approach has been "category of one". Ultimately - Any sort of category creation is very hard to do. That's why I'm doing it. HAHA. But also because I have a lot to say based on my own journey that doesn't always fit into a common narrative. Unlike Paul Atreides, I won't be transforming a desert planet into a paradise. But I can help Solo Founders level-up and slow down a little. Matt -- P.S. I'm opening Flywheel Founders in January. This first group of founders will have a ton of access to me for what I'm going to charge. Why? It's the first cohort. I want to get it right. So more time means better service while I see what my clients gravitate towards. I'm offering up the kitchen sink (everything). Some things will be helpful, some won't. Workshops, private coaching, group activities, access to tools and resources. Ultimately it will be a great investment. Stay tuned. If you can't wait, email me back. |
