It’s 1 AM, and in five hours, this newsletter goes out. An hour ago, my wife gave birth. In our bedroom. At 7 PM, the contractions started. I suggested we call the midwife. But the contractions were light. So my wife hesitated. So as a typical father, I did what any other birth partner would do. I asked ChatGPT what we should do. "GO NOW!" was the answer. Helpful? Sure. It didn’t ask for details. Getting more context would have been helpful. It didn’t check how far apart the contractions were. And sometimes you need to understand how things are actually working. AI is getting better, but it still lacks nuance. That reminds me of how people throw AI at other problems. They assume automation will save them. But no AI will fix bad pricing, weak positioning, or targeting the wrong audience.
Most businesses don’t fail because of a lack of automation. Or that they need to go faster. They fail because of poor systems, bad cash flow, and misaligned positioning. They fail because they can't lead, or don't believe in themselves. They don't price like leaders and they don't present like it either. Those problems need to be solved first. Next week, after I’ve adjusted to life with a newborn, I’m working with four companies to do exactly that. And yes, I use a lot of AI. But the fundamentals come first. Want to know more? Reply with "baby," and we can book a chat. Cheers! Matt |
